چکیده

[1] Radiometry at L band can be adversely impacted by radio frequency interference (RFI) due to the presence of numerous sources, especially pulsed RFI from radars operating below 1400 MHz. RFI mitigation is very important to deal with this problem. A simple strategy for reducing pulsed RFI, termed ‘‘asynchronous pulse blanking’’ (APB), has been implemented in a digital receiver developed at Ohio State University. This paper presents results from a simulation of theAPB algorithm. Several aspects of algorithm use and performance are reported, including means for choosing the algorithm’s parameters and the robustness of the method in a realistic RFI environment. Effects of the blanking process on the final output are also examined.

SIMPLE PULSE BLANKING TECHNIQUE and IMPLEMENTATION in DIGITAL RADIOMETER

Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) can adversely impact microwave passive remote sensing measurements, and prohibits passive observations outside protected portions of the radio frequency spectrum. A microwave radiometer including a digital back-end with a simple real-time RFI mitigation technique for reducing pulsed RFI has been developed to address this issue; the process is termed “asynchron...

Interference Mitigation Technique for Coexistence of Pulse-Based UWB and OFDM

Ultra-wideband (UWB) is a useful radio technique for sharing frequency bands between radio systems. It uses very short pulses to spread spectrum. However, there is a potential for interference between systems using the same frequency bands at close range. In some regulatory systems, interference detection and avoidance (DAA) techniques are required to prevent interference with existing radio sy...

Mitigation of Radar Interference in L-band Radio Astronomy

The 1215–1400 MHz band is important for spectroscopy of H i at high redshift, pulsar work, and SETI. Observations at these frequencies are complicated by pulsed interference from ground-based aviation radars. In this paper, we characterize one such radar received at the Arecibo Observatory using coherently sampled data sets obtained during a recent observation. Using these data, we demonstrate ...
